Prunus maritima 'Beach Plum'

Beach Plum

Fruit: Purple-red color and about 1- inche in size. Great for jams/jellies.
Size: 6' tall and wide

Uses: Mixed border, shrub border, or hedge. Makes an excellent thicket and sanctuary for birds.

A round, dense shrub found normally on the East Coast along the shore, which makes it tolerant of salt. Beach Plum has delicious fruit about 1-inch across that are dull purple in color and ripen in August. Fruits may be used for jams and jellies. Flowers are white, single or double and bloom in early May. Easy to grow and makes a great sanctuary for birds.

Plants are shipped dormant and bareroot from early April through mid May. Size: 12 to 18-inch long stems.

How to Grow

Does best in at least a half day of full sun in average garden soil, but can tolerate partial sun and drier soil once established. Space 4 to 5-feet apart. Prune in late winter to maintain desired shape and size.
